A 'strath' is a glen with a broad flat base. Through this glen runs the River Glass which is fed by the waters coming out from Glen Affric, Cannich and Strathfarrar. The land can steeply rise, but farming is carried out in the lower reaches, mainly cattle and sheep farming. Hydro electric power is generated from the waters of the glens and fed to the National Grid. Deer are hunted in the remote, beautiful and wild glens. Salmon and Rainbow Trout are fished (under permit) from the rivers while Brown Trout are found in the lochs of the hillsides and glens. Moors and mountains are close by and good walking country. In Scotland the Right to Roam allows access to land provided you take care and act responsibly. The City of Inverness is a leisurely 25 minutes away from the Kilmorack area by car. |
